Phi Lambda Sigma, the international Pharmacy Leadership Society, reaffirms our Society’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within our Society and within the pharmacy profession
On June 22, 2022, the Phi Lambda Sigma Board of Directors unanimously approved our 2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan. This plan included our Commitment to DEI statement:
In Phi Lambda Sigma, we are dedicated to reimagining and fostering leadership for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future. We strive to educate and provide opportunities to build a strong community of pharmacy professionals where everyone is included. By upholding these values, we are committed to positively impacting lives and inspiring transformational change within the pharmacy profession.
This statement and its associated objectives within our Strategic Plan were not designed hastily. A task force of collegiate and professional members spent one year evaluating our current practices, investments, and representation within our chapters. This inaugural DEI Taskforce authored a series of recommendations for the Board of Directors to consider, which were adopted after extensive discussion and additional input from the Board of Directors and committee chairs at our 2022 Annual Retreat. Those recommendations informed our 2022-2025 Strategic Plan and will remain a priority as we undertake planning for our next strategic plan.
As we are dedicated to representing and developing all pharmacy leaders, Phi Lambda Sigma reaffirms our commitment to DEI. We strongly believe that pharmacy leadership is at its best when all are respected, invited, and valued. Evidence has shown that diversity leads to greater success. Companies with diverse teams are more financially successful, more innovative, and enjoy higher employee satisfaction and retention. In addition, diverse perspectives benefit a team’s accuracy and decision-making.
At PLS, we believe this evidence and are therefore invested in developing inclusive leaders from all backgrounds. PLS leadership has seen time and time again how diversity within our Board, committees, and chapters has resulted in phenomenal results. These results have trickle-down effects as our members go on to inspire transformational change within the pharmacy profession – for our patients and surrounding communities. In short, our Society is stronger when we welcome leaders from all backgrounds and lower barriers that will likely result in discrimination.
Our Board’s commitment to the 2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan and our DEI Commitment is unwavering. Let’s recognize, cultivate, and inspire transformational leadership for all.
