Phi Lambda Sigma, the Pharmacy Leadership Society, held its first ever Virtual House of Delegates on Sunday, April 19, 2020. The 45th installment of the Society’s House of Delegates was presided over by Briana Reyna, PharmD Candidate from the University of Houston. All of the National Executive Committee’s elected and appointed officers reported on the status of the Society. The House of Delegates was immediately followed by the PLS Annual Awards Ceremony presided over by Jordan Ballou, PharmD, BCACP from the University of Mississippi and incoming National President. Both events were held virtually since in-person meetings were prohibited as a result of COVID-19.
The House of Delegates concluded with the election of the new national officers: President-Elect: Michael Mueller, PhD from LECOM School of Pharmacy, Bradenton Campus; Speaker of the House: Alakai Montalbo, PharmD Candidate from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy; and Members-at-Large: Rashid Abdoh, PharmD Candidate from Texas A&M University College of Pharmacy and Kira Voyer, PharmD Candidate University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
One of the most significant announcements of the afternoon came from Executive Director, Mary Euler, PharmD, FAPhA. Dr. Euler formally announced that she will be stepping down as the Executive Director of the Society on June 30, 2020 after over 20 years of service in that role. Dr. Euler was honored during the awards ceremony with a tribute speech by friend and colleague, Alan Spies, RPh, JD, MBA, PhD. Dr. Ballou shared, “Dr. Euler’s impact on PLS was significant and will be lasting. She has ushered the Society through so much growth and we will always look to her as a role model for her professionalism and commitment to the profession. She will be missed in the day- to-day Executive Director role, but we are so excited that she has decided to stay on in an appointed role starting in July.” The National Executive Committee was made aware of Dr. Euler’s intent to step-down during the Society’s leadership retreat last summer and have successfully completed a search for a new Executive Director.
